Oct. 4, 2012

Hello humanitarians! Here is what we discussed at the last meeting:

-A reminder that EVERYONE is welcome to participate in outings such as Langley Vineyard, Langley Gardens, Gleaners, etc. - even if you're not a part of the Humanitarian Club! Just be sure to get a permission slip from one of the group leaders (information in side links).

-The next trip to Gleaners will be taking place on May 25th. Please notify Leah Kim or Chloe Lim if you are interested in volunteering and also if your parents would be able to drive (they need drivers!!).

-For the trips to Langley Gardens: the group will be leaving on Monday as planned, but the TUESDAY trip is CANCELLED. As a result of this, They will need 18 volunteers for WEDNESDAY, OCT. 10th. It is important that they also have enough drivers and volunteers as they will be practicing the safety evacuation drill. Talk to Bailie for more information.

-Me2We will be selling more lollipops for $1 this following week. Be sure to check out their blog, also linked in the sidebar, for more information.

-We are also looking for fundraising ideas for the Make A Wish Foundation. Try to think up some suggestions at the next meeting!

-Wgss humanitarian, Morgan McKay, will be organizing a bake sale to fundraise for our club. Find her in the halls or at the next meeting if you bake or are simply interested in helping out.

-GLC will be hosting Club Day- an exhibition of all the clubs our school has to offer. This will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 9th. Spread the word!

-Halloween For Hunger? Stay tuned for more info!

-As always, be sure to save any spare change you find lying around in between sofa cushions for Zoe's jar for Operation Smile or Graham's jar for Muscular Dystrophy!

Happy October, everyone!

WELCOME BACK GATORS

Hello again! I hope you all had a great summer.
Brace yourselves, this is going to be a long one. Worth the read, though.

So today we had our very first humanitarian club meeting of the 2012/2013 school year- and what a turn out! It was great seeing so many of you back, as well as fresh faces and even a brand new grade 8 member. We welcome all of you and hope you stick around throughout the year to help us help others!

Jumping back into things, there are a number of updates:

-T-SHIRTS! We have our own t-shirts now with a spiffy logo too. They will be available for purchase at roughly $24.00. More information to come on how to purchase your very own.

-We have received word that the Kenya 2012 trip was a SUCCESS! Don't feel bad if you missed out, however, as there will be another trip in 2013. Surely this will be a great opportunity to help others and see the world from a whole new perspective! Stay tuned for more information.

-The next trip to Friends Langley Vineyard will take place NEXT WEDNESDAY. If you are not already signed up, please speak to David Park or Sungbin Kang for sign up sheets. Come on out if you are interested in volunteering to help provide a hot meal to those who may not otherwise have one.

-There will be a trip to Langley Gardens on Monday, September 10th. The group will be meeting at 2:45pm in the foyer. They will also be going on Tuesday, September 11th as well at 3:15 to play a round of Bingo with the golden agers.

-The next trip to Gleaners will be held on Saturday, September 29th. The group will be meeting at WGSS at 7:30 am. It is early but it is also a great cause... so set your alarm clock and don't be late!

-The PKSS (Project Kenya Sister School) club will be having meetings at lunch on Fridays in room 165. Feel free to pop in if you are interested in raising money for Sweetwaters, our sister school in Kenya.

-Lastly, a reminder that there will be jars circulating the room at humanitarian meetings to raise money for Graham's Muscular Dystrophy charity and Zoe's Operation Smile charity. Every cent counts, so don't forget to bring any spare change that may be hiding in your sofa.

DON'T HESITATE TO PARTICIPATE! NEWCOMERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR BEING SO AWESOME! LET'S TRY TO MAKE THIS A FANTASTIC YEAR... NOT JUST FOR US, BUT FOR ALL OF THE WORLD!

New update- finally!!

Hey guys! So sorry I've been neglecting the blog. IT WILL BE REGULARLY UPDATED IN THE 2012/2013 SCHOOL YEAR- I PROMISE! Till then I'll be working on getting the swing of this whole blogging business.

Some new updates:

We're still collecting gently-used toys and books for B.C. Children's hospital... come on, we all know you're hoarding your precious teddies. Why not pass on the joy for a good cause?

Me2We will be having a PENNY DRIVE! Check in between your couches for any old pennies (or any coins for that matter) that you're willing to throw in the jar.

Interested in travelling to KENYA in the summer of 2013 to help build a school? There will be a meeting at lunch in ROOM 243 on FRIDAY, JUNE 1st for more details.

Ramp It Up is currently still working for a 100% wheelchair accessible community. Speak to Jeevan if you'd like to be a part of this fantastic project.

You are all wonderful people. I hope you're all finding time to take a breath of fresh air amidst the madness of Exam Weeks... if not, do make an effort!! Relax, it'll all be over soon. Summer is on its way.
